Grocery store display contests run throughout the summer

TORONTO - Ontarians have chosen the winner of the best grocery store asparagus display in the second Consumers' Choice Contest of the season. The award goes to Food Basics #681 in London for building the most creative display of Ontario asparagus.

"Congratulations to Food Basics #681 in London for showcasing Ontario's produce in such a delicious and inviting way," said Ernie Hardeman, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. "By participating in the Foodland Ontario Retailer Award display contests, you are helping fellow shoppers choose locally grown produce. When we choose to buy local, we are supporting our farmers, our environment and our economy."

There are several more contests for consumers to vote in throughout the summer and fall. By following Foodland Ontario on Instagram or Facebook, Ontarians can choose their favourite from the top three grocery store displays. The grocery store display that receives the most "likes" wins the contest.

The annual Foodland Ontario Retailer Awards are the produce industry's premier competition for excellence in retail display and promotion in support of local Ontario foods. Retailers enter seasonal display contests which run from mid-April to November. In 2018, over 4,250 entries were submitted with almost 6,000 photos of compelling displays featuring fresh Ontario produce.
