Legend, Univar Reach Deal To Provide Corn And Soybeans To Western Canada

Oct 21, 2014
Legend Seeds and Univar Agriculture have reached a deal that will bring more corn and soybeans into western Canada.

Univar is a logistics company and leading agriculture supplier to the independent dealer network across western Canada.

Jeff Bereza, business development manager for Legend Seeds, says the agreement will allow producers to try out the crop in smaller amounts.

"It'll give the growers the opportunity to grow smaller amounts of acres if they wish to," he said. "If they want to try soybeans, they may want to try 40 or 80 acres, instead of trying 500 acres. It also frees up, so that the local dealers in all the soybean growing areas will have access to soybeans."

Bereza notes corn and soybeans acres are increasing in western Canada, due in part to the creation of shorter season varieties.

The deal between Legend Seeds and Univar Agriculture is in effect now and will benefit growers for the 2015 season.
