Field days are continuing across the state, highlighting work done with the interseeder trials.
We have a number of interseeder trials around the state and many have been very successful. The concept continues to grow and provides an opportunity for cover cropping following grain, late planted corn and corn in northern counties where cover cropping is generally not possible. The field days are part of our collaboration with NRCS in our Conservation Innovation Grant and also with several Conservation Districts around the state who have sponsored demonstrations. Earlier in October, our field days kicked off with two out in western PA., and are moving around the state. Here is a list of field days remaining:
On October 16, our team is pulling together a field day of our interseeder research at Rock Springs. This will cover a range of topics including different species and varieties of ryegrass, interseeding in soybeans, herbicide screening, equipment options, and funding cover crop establishment. Also using the interseeder for wildlife food plot establishment and in organic production will be featured. Go to the following link for complete details and to register. Please register by October 15.
On October 23, we will have a field tour at the Evan Burkholder farm in Franklin County. Here we have interseedings and also have studied the impact of interseeding on corn yields in the following year.
On October 28 we will be participating in two field days in the northern tier on the same day. In the morning the Tioga County Conservation District will host a tour at the Luke Hess Farm near Lawrenceville and then in the afternoon at Ron Kittles farm Near Sylvania in Bradford County. These will show the potential on interseeding on northern tier farms for interseeding ryegrass, clovers and radishes.
