Heat Wave Impacting Canola

Jul 01, 2021

The heat wave is having an impact on Manitoba's canola crop.

Justine Cornelsen is an agronomy specialist with the Canola Council of Canada.

"Any temperatures over that 28 to 29 degree Celsius is going to cause some stress on that plant. That's just for the daytimes. We are going to be seeing that. We also have to assess what those overnight lows are going to be. The plants are resilient and if it can cool off overnight, they will bounce back from that heat during the day."

She says the canola crop has progressed past the stage of flea beetle damage, adding there are pockets of some really nice crop.

At this point, farmers will be making decisions regarding sclerotinia fungicide application.
