The Graziers’ Record Keeping Workshop – “You can’t manage what you can’t measure.” Record keeping is a key component to managing an efficient farm business, and is supported by USDA financial assistance programs. With proper record keeping, evaluations can be made on the reproductive, productive and financial status of the cow herd.
Then management and selection practices can be implemented to make improvements where necessary. Likewise, the simple act of measuring and recording the forage mass in pasture fields can help with many management decisions graziers must make. Measuring the fields on a regular basis can help producers see trends in forage growth and enable them to adjust their management accordingly. During this workshop, producers be exposed to techniques for forage measurement, what can be done with the information to help them improve their operations, and financial assistance available for monitoring.
Additionally, producers will be made aware of the importance of recording information on their cattle, what types of records to keep, and some methods and software available for record management.
