Free fishing weekend in Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan's annual Free Fishing Weekend happens this coming weekend, July 9 and 10.

It's an opportunity for Saskatchewan residents and visitors to pick up a fishing rod and give fishing a try.

Free Fishing Weekend does not apply in the province's National Parks, but any other public water that's open to sport fishing is free to fish.

No license is required unless you plan to take the fish you catch out of the province.

Angling limits and all other fishing regulations still apply.

Every year, more than a quarter of a million anglers take to Saskatchewan's waters to sport fish.

There are nearly 70 species of fish native to Saskatchewan, including 21 different sport fishing species such as walleye, pike and trout.
