Today, Ernie Hardeman, Ontario’s Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, issued the following statement:
Foodland Ontario works hard to promote the good things grown in this province, and I am honoured to accept the Ontario Tender Fruit Growers’ Annual Award of Merit on its behalf.
As Ontario’s Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, I’m proud of our work to increase awareness of locally grown produce. When consumers see the Foodland Ontario logo, they can be sure they’re buying fresh, high-quality products and supporting our local farmers.
Our government knows our growers work hard to help feed the people of Ontario. They’re an important part of our communities and contribute to our economy and quality of life. That’s why we are committed to fighting for our farmers, and making it easier for all of those in the agri-food sector to thrive in Ontario. For nine months our government has been hard at work and we remain focused on keeping the promises we made to the people.
By improving Ontario’s financial health, as will be demonstrated in our first budget next month, we will further improve the environment in which agrifood businesses operate, so they can create jobs, grow our economy and grow more of the nutritious food that sustains us.
It’s our privilege to support our farmers and promote the good things grown in Ontario.
