Food Farm teaches students about farming

For the third consecutive year, kids from Swift Current and the surrounding areas attended the annual Food Farm event held at the Swift Current Research and Development Centre.

Sixty-one kids on Wednesday and another 96 kids on Thursday attended the event to learn about the various aspects of agriculture and food development in Saskatchewan.

Kari Burnett, agriculture awareness champion at the Ministry of Agriculture's office in Swift Current, looked forward to the opportunity that these kids were getting.

"This allows students to go out and get their hands dirty," Burnett added. "There's a lot of good interaction, and the kids seem to really be interested in what's going on."

Stations varied from planting vegetables to learning about the business side of farming and food processing, something that Burnett felt was important.

"They can see first hand the workings of what goes on at a farm and to show them where their food comes from," she explained.
