Flower Farm Owner Says There's Big Opportunities In Rural Alberta

Year one is in the books for an entrepreneur taking a fresh take on small scale agriculture near Vulcan.

Sarah Adams owns and operates a flower farm called Alberta Girl Acres, and was speaking at the Vulcan Trade and Tourism Expo on Saturday, April 13.

Adams says she's seeing more people take an interest in growing flowers in Southern Alberta since she started.

"There's farmers who are curious about making a side income, and then there's also urban growers who want to turn their backyard into a productive little plot."

Adams says her message to the crowd was rural Alberta is a good home for small scale agriculture and business.

"Whether it's a side business or a full scale business, I think there's a lot of potential for people to make a living out here."

Adams says they've got the greenhouse up, the ground is broken and they're a lot farther ahead than last year with the help of good neighbours.

The panel of speakers at the Trade and Tourism Expo also featured former Foothills MP and past President and CEO of CropLife Canada, Ted Menzies, who spoke about the exponential growth opportunities for the agri-food sector by further processing commodities grown in the area.
