Production and new uses research, educational outreach and international access are just some of the soy checkoff’s many focus areas designed to put money back into the pockets of U.S. soybean farmers. Check out five of those profit-building projects, which aim to increase yields, enhance quality, maximize farmer profitability and improve demand.

Stress-tolerance projects that address drought, heat and flooding. The primary objective of these projects is to develop soybean varieties that yield in spite of extreme weather.

Engine testing to certify a soybased motor oil made from high oleic soybean oil. This testing could result in the first American Petroleum Institute certification of a biobased motor oil which meets the latest industry standards.

Field-demonstration trials and educational materials on how to manage herbicide-resistant weeds. Through meetings, print materials and videos, 30,000 farmers, crop advisors and input suppliers have already learned about best-management practices for controlling weeds.

End-user education. The checkoff works with feed companies and nutritionists to emphasize U.S. soybean meal’s benefits for end users, such as protein levels, amino acid profile, energy and more.
