Federal Grain Inspection Fees To Drop In Saskatchewan

Apr 26, 2017

Saskatchewan farmers will soon enjoy a 24-percent drop in federal grain inspection fees. And one farm leader calls it a good first step

The chair of the Western Canadian Wheat Growers, Jim Wickett, says the 10-million dollar saving is good but more needs to be done.

He points out the federal Grain Commission has been racking up a 30 million dollar a year surplus.

He also wants the 130 million dollar accumulated surplus to go back to farmer.

It’s springtime,” said Wickett. ” We all have bills to pay right now. And a 10 to 20-thousand dollar cheque would go just about right to pay for input bills”
