Ducks Unlimited Hoping To See More Winter Wheat Acres

Nov 24, 2020
There's optimism surrounding this year's winter wheat crop in Manitoba.

Ken Gross is an agrologist with Ducks Unlimited.

"Overall I would say it looks pretty good. Although the conditions were very variable throughout Manitoba. Usually see more acres in the far southwest but it was really dry there. Overall, the fields we looked at, most of them went into the winter with at least 2 leaves. Ideally, we'd like to see three leaves. Have a little more energy going into the winter, but pretty good overall."

Gross says Ducks Unlimited had their own program to promote winter wheat working with over 20 producers.

He's hoping that leads to more acres planted this fall.
