Canadian Western Agribition is investing in Saskatchewan’s Livestock and Forage Centre of Excellence.
Agribition President Chris Lees says they are pleased to be able to donate $100,000 over the next 10 years.
He notes its important to give back adding that the money invested in research will continue to benefit the industry for years to come.
“Canadian Western Agribition is nearly 50 years old. Times have changed from 50 years ago or 49 years ago to today. This just helps keep improving the products that we're putting out there for the next 50 to 100 years as long as the research continues.”
Mary Buhr, Dean of the U of S College of Agriculture and Bio-Sciences is pleased with the funding noting its an important partnership with Agribition.
“The money is wonderful, it's going to help us build some of the new facilities that we still need. It will support the Producer field day that we have, which is an outreach to all of our community and help get our research findings in the hands of people who are actually going to use it. But the most important thing that it signals is that partnership, Canadian Western Agribition is an amazing operation, and to have it signal a formal partnership with the Centre of Excellence is typically Saskatchewan and absolutely amazing.”
Doug Freeman is Dean of the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the U of S and says the funding will help enhance the Centre’s current operations.
“Obviously, there're additional things that we can do there to expand. Then at our third site, we have work going this year on paddocks and fencing and enhancing what we can do it at that original site. There're more buildings to go up related to genomics studies and things like that which are going to be so important going forward. So, lots to do yet.”
