It could be a while before farmers get back out in the field, with much of the province dealing with an early blast of winter.
Morgan Cott is an agronomist with the Manitoba Corn Growers Association.
"The cold temperatures aren't going to lead to very good drying, obviously, we would prefer sun and wind," she said. "Freeze-drying, some guys think it's beneficial but I don't think those temperatures are fluctuating enough. It's more about the air temperature than it would be for anything else. So the snow I would just be worried about being able to travel on the ground."
Cott says the snow we've been getting won't have a major impact on the crop, although it may break plants that were already weakened due to other issues such as disease. She adds there was reports of mold on some of the corn that was harvested earlier this week.
Most of the silage corn was harvested before the snow hit, however not much grain corn has been taken off the field.
