Today’s donation was made possible by the Chicken Farmers of Ontario’s (CFO) CFO Cares: Farmers to Food Banks Program, which enables farmers from across the province to donate fresh chicken to the tables of those who need it most. CFO is also pleased to partner with local Ontario chicken processor, Sargent Farms, on this important initiative.

“Thank you to the Chicken Farmers of Ontario, and their members, for your incredible donation of more than 300 chickens to the Salvation Army, Khi Community Food Bank here in Milton,” said MPP Parm Gill. “Through the Chicken Farmer’s of Ontario’s Farmers Food Banks program, the Chicken Farmer’s of Ontario, and their members, are making a remarkable difference in our community, by providing fresh, nutritious food to those less fortunate.”

“The CFO Cares program is our way of giving back in the best way we know how,” said Murray Opsteen, 1st Vice-Chair, Chicken Farmers of Ontario and Chair of the CFO Cares Volunteer Working Group. “Our farmers have joined the fight against food insecurity by providing local food banks with a steady supply of fresh, locally-grown chicken – we applaud them, and we look forward to continuing to grow this important program.”

Murray Opsteen also said Ontario’s chicken farmers value the partnership with Feed Ontario, Sargent Farms and the government.

“Sargent Farms has always been dedicated to supporting the local community,” said Kevin Thompson, CEO of Sargent Farms. “We are pleased to partner with the CFO Cares program – processing the chicken which is directed into the food bank system and working to further alleviate hunger in the province.”
