Cereals Canada President Says Grain Supply Chain Is Secure

Apr 21, 2020
Cereals Canada President Cam Dahl is reassuring Canadians about the security of the country's grain supply chain.

"It's important for people to realize that from a grains and oilseeds point of view, we're in really good shape in terms of the supply chain," he said. "Canadians can be assured to that our mills are operating, our supply chain is working well. Grain shippers are able to move their product. Mills are operating, our bakeries are operating. We're in good shape."

Dahl says farmers have access to the seed, fertilizer and crop inputs they need for the upcoming growing season.

"We know that farmers are coming into the plant season for 2020 and we're getting questions about whether there's going to be interruption from a farm point of view. What we're seeing, while there might be some disruptions, farmers have the fertilizer they need, they have the seed they need, they have the crop inputs they need, we're in pretty good shape for spring planting."

He's confident that the Canada supply chain will remain operational during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Things are moving very well right now. We're seeing strong movement to port. We're seeing good vessel loadings. Canada is meeting its export commitments, and further more the companies in the supply chain, whether they're the elevator companies or work at the ports, have taken the steps to help ensure that the impact of the virus is minimized."

He adds our supply chain is highly efficient and resilient, which is especially important and valuable during this time of crisis.
