Its official, Canadian Western Agribition (CWA) is postponing its Regina show this year.
CEO Chris Lane says Agribition has never missed a show in 49 years.
"Definitely a tough decision to have to make. You know, we had a board meeting earlier this week where unanimously it was a decision that created a lot of disappointment. There's a lot of things tied up in Agribition and the people around the table who lead it and I think the toughest decision we've ever had to make but also the right one."
Lane says there's still a lot of uncertainty around public health.
"You know, public health, those restrictions, those guidelines and the plan to reopen to large events like ours is, you know, pretty murky. I think, you know, for good reason but that does mean that we have some things that we just couldn't be as confident about for our exhibitors."
He notes they will continue to work on new ideas creating new opportunities, new digital experiences for exhibitors, international buyers, and students.
There are still areas for Agribition to focus on for this year such as the mentorship program, international market development, education, and scholarships.
"This was a difficult decision to make, but the health and safety of our exhibitors, sponsors, volunteers, partners, and guests is priority," said CWA President Chris Lees. "We owe it to everyone connected to Agribition to make the best decisions we can, even when they're the hardest ones to make."
CWA's 50th show that was scheduled to take place on November 30 to December 5, 2020, will now take place November 22 to 27, 2021.
