Oct 27, 2016

The innovative qualities of the Pennsylvania farmer is noteworthy and we’re canvassing the state to uncover those operators that have developed ways to make short work of planting cover crops and small grains.

With ever-shortening seeding windows in the late fall, many farmers are finding innovative ways to get cover crops and small grains seeded in a timely fashion and as quickly as possible. Some of these methods include the use of broadcast and air seeders in combination with vertical tillage machines or units mounted on harvest equipment. These setups show potential for quickly covering acres and reducing seeding costs. However, less is known about the success of stands seeded in this manner, especially when working in fields with large amounts of residue.

If you’re utilizing some of these methods and you’d be willing to share your experiences, we would like to hear about what you’re doing and how well it is working on your farm.
