The scholarship program is available to students in Grade 12 and/or recent graduates who are entering agriculture-related post-secondary studies in 2019.
Emma Hinz of Humboldt was the 2018 Saskatchewan Agriculture Student Scholarship winner.
“It (The scholarship) has allowed me to further my education and develop a deeper connection to the agriculture industry by sharing my voice.”
Emma Hinz is a Type 1 diabetic that also deals with celiac disease and wrote about the benefits of GMO insulin and how it has helped her.
“I had mentioned in my essay the advancements in GMO’s (Genetically Modified Organisms). It actually has been able to produce insulin for people just like me to access it safely and it’s available. It totally changed our lives and lets us live normal lives just like everyone else.”
Emma won the $4000 and is putting it towards her education in Animal BioScience.
The other runner-up scholarship winners for 2018 are Laura Carruthers of Frenchman Butte, Kati Culbertson of Redvers and Crystal Daniel of Avonlea.
Marit says Agriculture is a major employer and economic driver in our province and there are many exciting career opportunities to pursue.
