2018-19 APAS Youth Leadership and Mentorship Program

Applications are now being accepted for the APAS Youth Leadership and Mentorship
Program. Farm Policy matters and our industry faces many critical issues that need to
be addressed, such as:

•  How to support young producers
• How to keep agriculture profitable and sustainable
• How to connect with decision makers and the public and advocate for our industry
• How to maintain and support rural communities

The APAS Youth Leadership and Mentorship program will co-ordinate and support
mentorships between young producers and industry leaders. The goals of the program
are to help young producers gain valuable experience, take advantage of networking
opportunities, and develop the skills necessary to become a future industry leader.

Young producers are the future of agriculture and a priority for APAS. In 2016,
participants in the Youth Leadership and Mentorship Program asked for and
received the support at the APAS Annual General Meeting to set up their own
Policy Committee: the APAS Young Agricultural Producers Committee, or ‘YAP.’
Participants in the 2018-19 APAS Youth Leadership and Mentorship Program will
work with the YAP Committee to help identify policy ideas for the future.

Program Highlights
• Leadership skills development:

• Identify and advance farm issues that matters to you
• Improve your presentation skills
• Learn to chair meetings, negotiate, and find solutions
• Meet other young producers who share your concerns

• Mentorship by experienced Saskatchewan farm leaders
• Attend the APAS Annual General Meeting in Regina, November 27-29, 2018
• Attend the Canadian Federation of Agriculture AGM in Ottawa, February 27
– March 1, 2019
• Talk with current and previous farm leaders and provincial and federal
leaders and ministers
• The opportunity to join the APAS Young Agricultural ProducersCommittee and
participate in other policy committees

Eligibility Criteria
• Between 18 and 39 years of age as of November 1, 2018
• An active agricultural producer
• Available approximately 12-14 days from November 2018 to August 2019

Expenses
• All approved travel expenses, including accommodation, meals, and mileage will
be reimbursed based on APAS rates

• Application deadline is 11:59 pm on October 31, 2018
• Complete the application form and return to the APAS office at info@apas.ca or
via fax at 306-789-7774.
