About Common Groundsel: |
Common groundsel tends to appear in fields, gardens and lawns. This weed tends to like rougher textured soil. It is a competitive weed, and will take over vegetable crops. This weed has a green stem that is in the range of 10-40 cm high. It is a smooth plant, and has long thin leaves, that have various points. It is an annual or winter annual weed. The seeds this weed produces have little white hairs and usually travel via wind power, and are very easily spread. Family: Composite or Aster Family Common Groundsel Scouting Prevention:Monitoring and managing fields throughout the spring all the way to fall can potentially be one of the most effective ways to avoid this weed. If fields are too big, then at random choose sections of 10 to 20 rows to check on a regular basis. Common Groundsel Control:The most common way to control this weed generally is to remove the plant before it has the chance to flower and spread its seeds. But since the seeds can still survive and spread even if the plant has been killed, it is very important to remove the plant completely from any areas that could be potentially harmed by this weed. There are many means of control via herbicides as well. Latin / Alternative Common Groundsel Names:- - Senecio vulgaris L
