Keep it Clean’s Initiative for Marketability

 By: Farms.com

Keep it Clean, a prominent agricultural organization, is set to host a webinar on July 10 at 11 a.m. CDT. The webinar aims to guide Canadian growers, agronomists, and retailers on key on-farm practices. The focus is to avoid unacceptable product residues and protect the marketability of Canada’s canola, cereal, and pulse crops.

Canadian agricultural exports must adhere to the standards of importing countries. These standards include tolerances for pesticide residues and traces of disease, which vary between markets.

Importing countries are increasingly using highly sensitive equipment to test shipments and ensure compliance with set maximum residue limits (MRLs).

The webinar will cover topics such as proper staging for pre-harvest glyphosate application, the importance of following pre-harvest intervals (PHIs) for crop protection products and scouting for disease.

Presentations will be given by Krista Zuzak, Director of Crop Protection and Production, Cereals Canada; Greg Bartley, Director of Crop Protection & Crop Quality, Pulse Canada; and Ian Epp, Agronomy Specialist, Canola Council of Canada.

Greg Bartley emphasizes that applying a product like pre-harvest glyphosate for weed control too early can lead to unacceptable product residues in harvested grain. This can result in non-compliance or shipment rejections.

Attendees will also learn about digital tools on KeepitClean.ca. These include the Pre-Harvest Glyphosate Staging Guide and Pre-Harvest Interval Calculator. These tools help growers make informed spraying decisions using a mobile device.

The webinar is an excellent opportunity for growers, agronomists, retailers, and media to learn about the tools available to ensure their harvest meets the requirements of domestic and export customers. Registration for the webinar is now open.
