- Don’t idle an occupied vehicle.
- Install an alarm system or steering wheel lock.
- Lock parked vehicles and remove the keys.
- Try to park in well-lit and secure areas.
Truck thefts have occurred in other parts of Saskatchewan too.
On Sept. 23, Estevan RCMP asked for the public’s assistance to find a stolen truck.
Between Sept. 22 and 23, a white 1995 GMC dually with a black tool box and hoist was stolen from the Souris Valley Memorial Gardens.
And on Sept. 11, a silver Dodge Ram 2500 truck with Saskatchewan plate 410 BWZ was stolen from a property in Luseland.
Saskatchewan had more than 1,500 reports of vehicle theft in 2021.
Of the 1,519 reports (126 per month) reported between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 451, or about 29 per cent of victims admitted to leaving keys inside at the time of the theft.
