Three scholarships will be awarded

When chefs want to expand their knowledge of cooking, they’ll often spend time travelling abroad to different countries. Through the travels, they’ll learn about new techniques, ingredients and products available to them. They will bring those items back and implement them into their cooking practices.

A Canadian organization is giving people with agricultural careers the chance to do something very similar.

Nuffield Canada is offering three scholarships of $15,000 each “to agricultural leaders to expand their knowledge and network with top individuals around the world, to promote advancement and leadership in agriculture.”

One scholarship is sponsored by the Grain Farmers of Ontario, another by Glacier FarmMedia.

"The Nuffield Farming Scholarship provides innovative Canadians with the funding to travel internationally to explore agricultural issues and opportunities in a global context," said Kelvin Meadows, Chair and 2011 Scholar in a press release. "Through allowing scholars to further develop their capabilities, we enable them to be better farmers, business managers and leaders and make a significant contribution to Canadian agriculture.”

Applicants should generally be between 25 and 45 years old with a minimum of five years of agri-business or farming experience.

The winning scholars will travel for a minimum of 10 weeks and study a topic that is of interest to them. They must complete their travels within two years of winning the award and present a written report of their findings.

Winners will also be required to attend the Contemporary Scholars Conference being held in Ireland in March 2016.

Applications must be submitted by April 30 and awards will be handed out around July 30.
