Proudly Canadian: Food Day Canada Marks 10 Years

Aug 02, 2013

It’s been a decade since Food Day Canada featured The World’s Longest Barbeque to support Canada’s beef industry, which took a hit when our largest trading partner, the U.S., imposed trade sanctions after the BSE crisis.

University of Guelph’s Food Laureate, Anita Stewart dreamed up the concept in 2003 to support Canadian beef cattle farmers, which has since grown into an annual event to celebrate Canadian food. The commemorative day pays tribute to our agricultural producers and our food heritage while celebrating Canadian ingredients.

To make it convenient to join the party, a ‘road map to the flavours of Canada’ is featured on the main page of Food Day Canada’s website. It features a legend of participating restaurants, farmers markets and an opportunity for Canadians to post their own party location and menu.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to indulge in some great Canadian food, wine and beer. Follow the fun on Twitter at - @FoodDayCanada. The official hashtag for the event is #FDC2013. Cheers Canada!
