The online survey is designed “for the collection and reporting of weather and climate impacts on farm operations across Canada,” the survey’s site says.
Producers can complete the survey by email or by phone as well.
The questionnaire takes about five minutes to complete and requires information like:
- Farm location
- Type of farm
- If the area is experiencing weather or climate-related impacts
- Soil moisture condition, and
- Steps farmers have taken to adapt to challenging weather this year.
Once the responses are collected, scientists use them to create a map of conditions across Canada. These maps help identify trends and visualize how climate is affecting agriculture.
The findings are then publishes on the Drought Watch website.
In addition, the survey data can help with farmer support programs.
The information “provides valuable and reliable data that are mapped and used in the assessment and development of policies and programs including AgriRecovery and the Livestock Tax Deferral Provision…,” the website says.
