Recycling farm waste can often be a hassle, that’s why it is no surprise that CleanFARMS recycling program has become popular amongst farmers. The organization announced recently that it has expanded its fertilizer recycling program to include new products. The group says that in addition to accepting empty pesticide containers, it will also now accept plastic fertilizer jugs and pails under 23 liters. “Over the years we have seen farmers bring fertilizer containers into collection sites so we knew there was a need to expand our program. It’s great to see members of the fertilizer industry step up and support this new initiative,” says Barry Friesen, general manager of CleanFARMS. Approximately 4.5 million empty plastic fertilizer containers are collected and recycled and made into farm drainage tile every year. In order for containers to be recycled, farmers are required to triple rinse containers to remove all product and take off the cap and label.
