Exeter’s Huron Tractor announced on Friday that six Ontario students received $1,500 to support their post-secondary education.

The company introduced its scholarship program in June. It aims to show the nine-location John Deere dealership’s commitment to education and support Ontario ag.

An independent selection committee selected the recipients. The team reviewed grades, eligibility, and essay submissions. Candidates need to be entering their “first year of a full-time, undergraduate and/or graduate Agricultural program at a recognized post-secondary educational institution,” a Friday release explained.

Alexander Kloostra of Monkton, DeeAndra Skinner of Centralia, and Allison Visser of Ravenna all received the scholarship. Huron Tractor also gave three scholarships to children of employees, announcing Mykayla Turner of Dashwood, Heather Taylor of Mount Elgin, and Meredith Wise of Clinton as the winners.

And the students are thankful for this support.

“This scholarship will lift some of the financial burden that comes with university,” Skinner said to Farms.com today. “It will allow me to purchase a laptop to help further my education.

“Technology gives the ability to expand knowledge by being able to conduct research, and this scholarship has granted me the opportunity to do so.”

"This scholarship means that Huron Tractor cares about their customers, and also cares about the future of the agriculture industry,"  Kloostra told Farms.com. "I think that this scholarship is important for Ontario agriculture because it encourages ... young people that there is a future in agriculture."
