A new grain elevator in Saskatchewan is officially open.
G3 held its grand opening for its facility near Melfort in the Rural Municipality of Flett’s Springs on Aug. 10 to celebrate the newest elevator available to Sask. farmers.
FWS began construction on the elevator in late 2021 on the CN Rail line.
The elevator has a capacity of 42,000 tonnes, and can unload Super-B trucks in less than five minutes. It can also load 150-car trains on its loop track in a matter of hours.
The cars can be loaded in about 10 hours, Terry Youza, a Sask. farmer, posted on Twitter while attending the grand opening.
The Melfort elevator is ready to receive grain and support local farmers.
“We’re excited to show farmers in the Melfort area how we can save them time and money with our state-of-the-art systems and commitment to customer service,” Don MacDonald, G3’s vice president of operations, said in a statement.
The elevator also created about 12 jobs in the community.
A few days before the Melfort opening, G3 celebrated another grain elevator ribbon cutting in Alberta.
On Aug. 2, G3 and community representatives officially opened the G3 Rycroft elevator, located about 70km north of Grande Prairie.
Like its Melfort relative, the elevator in Rycroft is located on the CN Rail line and boasts a capacity of 42,000 tonnes. Super-B trucks can be unloaded in less than five minutes and 150-car trains can be loaded in a matter of hours as well.
