Grains of Saskatchewan Gets a Refresh

Agriculture in the Classroom Saskatchewan (AITC-SK) has unveiled an upgraded version of its Grains of Saskatchewan education display, offering a dynamic and interactive way to educate students about Saskatchewan’s agriculture industry.

The revamped display made its debut at the Western Canadian Crop Production Show, where attendees, including project collaborators and the public, explored its updated features.

First introduced in 2012, the display has been a key educational tool at major agricultural events like the Canadian Western Agribition in Regina, the Grain Millers Harvest Showdown in Yorkton, and Saskatoon’s Prairieland Park Ag Experience.

The enhanced version aims to provide a deeper connection to the critical role of grains in the province's economy, culture, and global food systems.

This refreshed exhibit has been designed with portability and adaptability in mind, ensuring it can travel to numerous events across Saskatchewan, reaching approximately 15,000 students annually. It integrates modern elements such as hands-on activities, seed and plant displays, and visually engaging materials. Visitors can explore the diversity of crops grown in Saskatchewan, learn about their byproducts, and uncover the significant contributions these grains make to local and global economies.

“We’re thrilled to reintroduce the Grains of Saskatchewan display with modernized features that make learning about agriculture even more engaging. Saskatchewan’s grains fuel not just our province, but the world, and this refreshed display ensures we continue to tell this important story in an inspiring and impactful way,” said Executive Director, Sara Shymko.

The modernization of the exhibit was made possible through support from organizations such as SaskPulse, SaskWheat, SaskOats, SaskBarley, SaskMustard, and SaskOilseeds, as well as funding from Canadian and Saskatchewan governments under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership.

AITC-SK hopes the revitalized display will inspire students to explore agricultural careers and foster a greater appreciation for Saskatchewan’s pivotal role as a global leader in agriculture. By connecting youth with experiential learning opportunities, AITC-SK continues to drive its mission to cultivate awareness and leadership in agriculture.
