USDA strategy now covers majority of US milk production
The USDA today announced a major expansion in its National Milk Testing Strategy (NMTS), with 15 additional states participating, bringing the total to 28.
This initiative now encompasses 65% of U.S. milk production, significantly enhancing the program's reach and effectiveness in safeguarding the nation's dairy supply.
This strategic move follows the USDA's initial implementation in six states and a subsequent addition of seven states, marking a robust response to dairy farm outbreaks. The newly included states such as Iowa, Kansas, and Virginia are pivotal in achieving near-national coverage.
So far, the testing results have been reassuring, with no new H5N1 detections in the majority of participating states. The USDA remains committed to transparency, pledging to report any future detections promptly.
