Treworgy Family Orchards won with a Peter Rabbit maze

A farm in Maine has won the title of best corn maze in the United States for the third year in a row.

USA Today’s 10BEST Readers’ Choice Awards selected the Peter Rabbit-inspired maze at Treworgy Family Orchards in Levant, Maine, as the best corn maze in the country for 2024.

The four-acre maze and its 60,000 corn plants is cut into the shape of Peter Rabbit and features interactive trivia stations and a 25-foot observation tower throughout.

Guests who find the center of the maze will have their names added to the Hall of Fame Board.

The farm has been welcoming visitors with corn mazes since 2021, making it the longest continually running corn maze in the state.

The farm also won national honors for its 40-year anniversary corn maze in 2023 and its Winnie the Pooh maze in 2022.

Being around food seems like a natural fit for Peter Rabbit.

In 1902’s The Tale of Peter Rabbit, where the titular character makes his first appearance, he disobeys his mother and sneaks into Mr. MacGregor’s garden.

Peter Rabbit eats as much lettuce, beans, radishes and parsley as he can before Mr. MacGregor catches him.

And Beatrix Potter, who created the Peter Rabbit character, had ties to ag in her native England.

She lived in the Lake District and turned her lifelong fascination with animals into a farming career.

“Learning from the best shepherds she could employ, her Herdwick sheep became some of the finest in the country and her pride and joy,” the National Trust’s website says.

She was committed to the conservation of Herdwick sheep, bred them and won awards at local ag shows, the website adds.

A Herdwick’s wool has unique quality relating to durability, and its thick bristle type fibres help form a protective layer in wool garments.
