As Americans, we will celebrate in multiple ways, whether it’s a cookout with friends, a trip to the beach or a dip in a swimming pool with Old Glory flying proudly.
Chris Davis will be on his Wisconsin Dells, Wis., dairy and crop farm that day while his employees have the day off.
For Davis, the American farm is a great symbol of the July 4 celebrations.
“Part of America’s dream was to be independent, and where better to see that than a farm?” he said. “I have the ability to do what I want and set my own destiny. I don’t have to plant corn or soybeans if I don’t want to. I can be a big farm or I can be a small farm, that’s my choice. When I look around at my farm and other farms like it, they truly are beacons of our independence.”
Once Davis completes the daily tasks on the farm, he likes to enjoy Independence Day.
That includes a cookout with another farm family, and always making time to see fireworks.
A piece of property he owns provides the perfect vantage point to watch the sky light up.
“It has a very steep hill with a high point,” he said. “My family and I I can sit on top of that hill, or in a corn field or hay field, from 9:00 to 11:00 and watch seven or eight different displays going on at the same time. It’s a great time to reminisce a little bit and taking everything in.”
