The webpage said the new iteration of Peavey Mart would place greater emphasis on “locally sourced products” and items tailored to “farmers, ranchers, and homesteaders”—a nod to the brand’s roots and its loyal customer base.
As noted, while the webpage that sparked the buzz has since been taken down, the excitement continues to build as rural communities anticipate the return of a trusted name in agricultural and homestead retail.
In early summer, Canadian retailer Home Hardware announced that it was stepping up its support for Canadian farmers with a significant expansion of its agricultural product line.
While the retailer already offered a variety of items in the farming category, it introduced a wider selection of new products through its Farm Assortment Catalogue, launched in June 2025.
There was mixed reaction from people on Facebook about the potential re-opening:
- "Yes very happy about this," said Candice Aien Campbell.
- "Wish they would open up again in Red Deer in the new beautiful store," shared Debbie Bystrom Dunlop.
- "Sadly, I know businesses who had to write off over $25,000 + that Peavy owed them!" posted Natalie Robinson.
- "Canadian tire would be way better," stated Devin Holzer.
- Too little too late. We have scrambled and moved on. Found better sources for products we really needed!" said one anonymous participant.
- "Yes they went bankrupt but sometimes the insolvency group has a restructuring that allows them to reopen some smaller outlets that actually did earn a profit," shared Annie Mae Cummer.
In a statement on their website on August 25, Peavey Mart confirmed "...we are excited to share that Peavey Mart is coming back to Spruce Grove, Westlock, Camrose and Lacombe this fall, and will include many of your favourite brands back on store shelves. Peavey Mart stores will reflect the needs of customers by providing reliable and relevant products, focusing on high quality, unique, and locally sourced items that highlight the Canadian entrepreneurial spirit."
