All beef. All the time.
That’s what’s going on at the Iowa Beef Expo, currently taking place at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
The show, which kicked off on February 8, features beef farmers and producers buying beef for the best price, or selling to the highest bidder.
There’s a vast array of breeds being shown off at the show including Limousin, Maine, Hereford and Charolais.
On tap for Tuesday is a variety of sales and previews including Red Angus and Gelbvieh. Events are scheduled to run until 8:00am Sunday morning where there will be a show for junior heifers.
Anyone looking to sell cattle must follow a strict set of guidelines when it comes to cattle health and transparency to the buyer. Included in the requirements for sale females are that they must be free of ringworm and have all proper documentation if the seller is advertising the animal as being pregnant.
Much of the requirements are the same for the males as they are females to be sold, but the males must have documentation that they’ve passed fertility examinations.
People aren’t going to go through all this trouble of getting their animals ready for the show if there isn’t some sort of prize or bragging rights.
