IGTC appoints a new Canadian VP

The International Grain Trade Coalition (IGTC) recently held its annual General Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, gathering international members both in person and virtually to chart a strategic course for the years ahead.

The event’s agenda covered critical issues in the global grain industry, including reducing non-tariff regulatory trade barriers, embracing digital tools to simplify cross-border trade, and collaborating with key global organizations like the World Trade Organization (WTO) to strengthen support for grain trade.

A central feature of the General Assembly was the election of the IGTC’s new executive team. Erin Gowriluk, President of the Canada Grains Council, was elected as the new Vice-President of IGTC. Alongside Gowriluk, Pat O’Shannassy, CEO of Grain Trade Australia, was appointed IGTC President, while Rosalind Leeck of the U.S. Soybean Export Council assumed the role of Secretary, and Gerald Makau Masila continued as Treasurer.

This leadership team aims to strengthen the IGTC’s mission of advocating science-based, trade-supportive policies across the grain industry.

“I am so proud to have been given the opportunity to serve as Vice-President of the IGTC during a critical time for the global grain trade. As a founding member of the Coalition, the Canada Grains Council has always championed the IGTC’s mission of fostering science-based, trade-enabling policies. This role is pivotal as we tackle increasingly complex regulatory landscapes and work collaboratively to advance the global grain trade and ensure food security.” said Erin Gowriluk.

The IGTC’s focus remains on mitigating challenges posed by shifting regulatory frameworks that depart from science-based policies. To tackle these issues effectively, the IGTC unites like-minded organizations globally to encourage collaboration.

The Coalition also acknowledged the leadership of outgoing IGTC President Alejandra Castillo of the North American Export Grain Association (NAEGA). Her efforts over the past year, including a strategic session in London, have laid a strong foundation for the Coalition’s future success.

The IGTC’s commitment to supporting the grain trade and addressing emerging challenges reflects its dedication to sustainable and secure global food systems.
