New Produce Safety Roadmap Gains IFPA Support

The International Fresh Produce Association (IFPA) recently expressed its support for the release of the Reagan-Udall Foundation’s “Roadmap to Produce Safety: A Conceptual Framework.” This report outlines a comprehensive approach to improving produce safety across the industry, and IFPA praised the collaborative nature of the effort.

The roadmap resulted from a produce safety dialogue involving over 170 stakeholders, who participated in eight working groups. These participants included representatives from the FDA, industry professionals, and regulatory experts. The process emphasized that continued collaboration between industry and regulators is essential for achieving tangible, long-term improvements in produce safety.

IFPA highlighted the role of the FDA in supporting this initiative, underscoring the agency’s investment in the Produce Safety Dialogue process. According to IFPA, this reflects a shared recognition that industry-wide efforts require consistent and active engagement to make a lasting impact.

IFPA also reaffirmed the importance of adequate funding to implement the changes suggested in the roadmap. Funding is crucial to ensure that all stakeholders can participate in this ongoing dialogue and make meaningful progress in enhancing food safety standards.

IFPA plans to keep industry members informed about opportunities for involvement in these efforts. The association remains committed to driving initiatives that aim to boost consumer confidence in the safety of fresh produce.
