Producers are able to manage and manipulate data

Climate FieldView, an online data platform, allows producers to manage, store and manipulate field information in the palm of their hands.

From heat and moisture to NDVI imagery, farmers can layer the information into a complete field report.

“Farmers are able to visualize what’s going on in their fields,” said Denise Hockaday, Climate business lead, Canada. “They haven’t been able to do that before. It opens them up to a new set of information they can take action on.”

FieldView focuses on three main pillars when it comes to field data, says Hockaday.

The first pillar revolves around having multiple pieces of data in a central location.

“(Data collection) can be a challenge because many of the places farmers look at information is served up on their own platform,” she said. “A farmer could need six or more accounts to access all of their information. FieldView brings it all together and that’s a significant, tangible benefit.”

The second pillar has to do with gaining insights from the collected information, says Hockaday.
And the final pillar involves farmers using their data more efficiently.

Producers can make “faster decisions, informed decisions, and decisions not based on gut instinct but on data and science,” said Hockaday.

FieldView’s impartiality towards manufacturers is another added benefit.

“For example, if a farmer is planting with a John Deere planter and harvesting with a Case IH combine, their ability to analyze a head-to-toe picture of what happened in the field would’ve been difficult (in the past),” says Hockaday. “FieldView has built in compatibility with many equipment manufacturers.”

The FieldView app is available on Apple and Android devices, but the FieldView Drive, which connects to a tractor or combine's controller area network diagnostic port and uses Bluetooth to wirelessly map a farmer's data, is only available for the iPad.
