Report and ADT Membership to Transform Canadian Farming

The Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA) is making significant strides with its recent report, "Data as a Foundation for Sustainable Productivity Growth."

This report lays out a clear path for integrating advanced data analytics into farming practices, essential for future growth and sustainability.

The CFA's report calls for collaborative efforts between government and industry leaders.

The aim is to establish clear data governance and foster investments in the technology necessary for precision agriculture.

CFA has taken a groundbreaking step by joining the Ag Data Transparent (ADT) organization, marking its commitment to leading by example in data transparency.

This membership will help CFA advocate for clearer data handling norms and encourage other Canadian agricultural entities to follow suit.

The report presents six main recommendations to effectively use data in agriculture, emphasizing the need for policies that support data interoperability and the sharing of information across platforms.

Key Recommendations:

  • Pan-Canadian Data Strategy
  • Investment in Rural Connectivity
  • Close the connectivity gap between urban, rural and remote
  • Establish programming to support the integration of connectivity solutions and equipment
  • Standards Development and Interoperability
  • Support industry efforts to develop common principles, guidelines and standards
  • Make a legislative commitment to supporting farm equipment interoperability.

Capacity Building :

These guidelines are designed to harness agriculture’s potential to drive economic growth and contribute to environmental sustainability efforts.

CFA will help certify that data practices adhere to trusted standards, thus building farmer confidence in digital tools.

This includes ensuring the simplicity and clarity of contracts and enhancing educational efforts about data security.

The CFA aims to ensure that Canadian agriculture remains innovative and competitive, using data responsibly to achieve greater efficiency and sustainability for all farmers across the country.
