A Manitoba ag organization is providing bursaries to help post-secondary students cover the costs of their education.
The Manitoba Crop Alliance (MCA) is awarding six bursaries worth $2,000 each to full-time students enrolled in ag programs in Manitoba for the 2022-23 school year.
The deadline to apply for the bursary is Friday, Jan. 13, 2023 at 4:30pm CST.
“Through this bursary, MCA hopes to encourage and support students studying to work in or support the agriculture industry,” an information sheet says.
To be eligible for a bursary, a student must have completed his or her first or second year of post-secondary education.
The student must have achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (73-75 per cent average), have an interest in wheat, corn, barley, flax, sunflower crops or agriculture in general and must be from a farm that is a member in good-standing of the MCA.
To demonstrate the student’s area of interest, he or she must submit a transcript and a 500-word letter.
The letter should include the student’s connection to or interest in ag, his or her reasons for enrolling in ag education and how they hope to contribute to the ag sector upon graduation.
Once the application period ends, a selection committee contracted outside of the MCA will review them and select the winners.
The recipients will be notified by Feb.10 and announced at the organization’s annual general meeting on Feb. 16. They will also be featured in the MCA’s social media content and in its biannual magazine, The Fence Post.
Bursary applications must be emailed to Katherine Stanley with the subject line “MCA Bursary Application 2022-23.”
