ABP withdraws membership from Canadian Cattle Association

The Alberta Beef Producers (ABP) Board of Directors has announced its decision to formally withdraw membership from the Canadian Cattle Association (CCA), effective July 1, 2026.

The decision follows months of strategic review and discussions around accountability, transparency, and value for Alberta cattle producers.

“Membership in national organizations like the CCA must deliver clear value to Alberta’s cattle producers,” said Doug Roxburgh, Chair of ABP. “ABP holds high standards for fiscal transparency, governance, and communications, and we expect the same from the organizations we support. The CCA does not meet those standards. After seeing no meaningful progress or willingness to change, we’ve made the decision to withdraw our membership. We have a duty to Alberta producers to ensure their dollars are invested in organizations that reflect and advance our industry’s values.”

ABP emphasized that it remains dedicated to serving Alberta’s cattle producers at both the provincial and national levels. “We are focused on delivering strong, strategic representation for Alberta’s beef industry,” said Brad Dubeau, General Manager of ABP. “In light of the Board’s decision, we have mapped a strong path forward to ensure Alberta’s voice continues to be heard — provincially, nationally, and internationally.”

ABP will continue to meet its financial obligations to the CCA until the conclusion of the current agreement on June 30, 2026. Currently, Alberta funds more than 50 percent of the CCA budget through the $2.00 Alberta Service Charge. This decision will not impact the Canadian Beef Cattle Check-Off Agency levy or its service providers such as Canada Beef, Public and Stakeholder Engagement, and the Beef Cattle Research Council.

In response Tyler Fulton, President of the Canadian Cattle Association released the following statement: “The Canadian Cattle Association (CCA) has received and acknowledges Alberta Beef Producers’ (ABP) intention to withdraw from our association by June 30, 2026. ABP and CCA have a long-standing collaborative and cooperative relationship, and we are both committed to continue working together to benefit beef producers in Alberta and across our country. Our priority continues to be advocating on behalf of Canadian beef producers on topics such as tariff-free trade, market access, competitiveness, animal disease prevention and preparedness, and business risk management programs.”

This step signals ABP’s intent to strengthen its provincial operations while ensuring Alberta producers’ voices remain central to national and international beef discussions.
