Ag students eligible for bursary from OFA

Students currently enrolled in post-secondary education with an agricultural focus, and high school students considering an agricultural education may be eligible for a bursary from the Ontario Federation of Agriculture.

Students from Southwest, Southeast and Northern Ontario are eligible to apply for the bursaries. There are a total of three available, each worth $3,500 per student; they are part of the OFA’s 80th anniversary celebrations with the winners being announced during the 2016 OFA Annual General Meeting & Convention.

To be eligible, applicants must be:

  • Between 17-30 years old and currently, or entering into post-secondary education with an agricultural focus.
  • An FBR or IFM member, or a child or employee of a current OFA member family
  • Able to demonstrate an interest in agriculture and/or rural issues
  • Able to demonstrate leadership and community involvement
  • Able to demonstrate satisfactory academic achievement

Applicants must include a specific of criteria in their submission, including:

  • A cover letter no longer than two pages explaining education goals and future plans in the agriculture industry
  • Resume with a list of community and agricultural involvement and accomplishments
  • Most recent transcript from high school or post-secondary institution
  • A letter of recommendation
  • OFA member number and relationship to membership holder

Applications must be submitted no later than Aug. 1, 2016.
