Members of Western Canada’s ag industry are putting their musical talents on display to raise money for different charities.

The first #AgRocksForCharity event takes place Dec. 3 at TCU Place in Saskatoon, Sask. at 8:00 p.m.

The event features farmers and other industry representatives showing off their instrumental and vocal skills accompanied by a house band that also includes industry members.

“It’s a live rock and roll concert with members of the industry coming together for an evening of music and raising money for charity,” Dan Aberhart, a farmer, event organizer and performer, told Farms.com. “These rock stars each have a charity that they are very passionate about and are hungry to get on stage to perform and talk about the charity.”

The performers will be raising money for nine charities:

  • Agriculture in the Classroom
  • Kids Cancer Care of Alberta
  • White Pony Lodge
  • DoMoreAg
  • Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
  • Canadian Cancer Society
  • STARS
  • Give a Shirt
  • Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada

Aftan Chobot, marketing manager for DOT Technology Corp. is among the vocalists participating.

She'll be helping raise money for the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada, an organization that's close to her heart.

"About nine years ago we lost my mom to brain cancer," she told Farms.com. "She fought with it for about 14 months. It means a lot to me that I can contribute to such a great cause and that everyone has the opportunity to do the same."

Aberhart hopes this event is the start of a long-lasting tradition.

“I’m really excited about it and I really hope this is an industry event that can last 100 years,” he said. “I hope that by tying together agriculture, charity and music, this is something that lasts a long time and we’ll see more people get involved.”
