In 2011, a cow named April became the mayor of Eastsound, Wash., an unincorporated community on Orcas Island in San Juan County. The community’s mayoral race acts as a fundraiser for Children’s House, which helps young kids get ready for kindergarten.
April’s campaign helped raise US$5,000 for the organization.
