A barn floor collapsed at a pig farm on Jones Baseline, east of Guelph, Ont., Tuesday night around 9:00p.m. [May 6].

Despite efforts from farm workers, neighbours and first responders, early reports suggest the structure failure killed about 2,000 pigs. However, approximately 500 pigs were saved during the rescue mission, which was still ongoing into Wednesday afternoon.

Wellington County OPP say that the two workers that were inside the barn when the floor gave way were not injured.

It is unclear at this time what caused the barn floor to collapse.
