Bring Home the Bacon

Bring Home the Bacon

This phrase often refers to people in a household who earn an income.

The origin of the phrase is said to be based on a story from the 1100s in the town of Great Dunmow in Essex, England.

Local legend has it that the church promised a side of bacon to any man who “could swear that he and his wife had not wisht themselves unmarried again,” for one year and one day.
