(Stratford, ON) - The 34th annual Ontario Pork Congress took place on June 20th and 21st in Stratford, ON. Exhibitors packed the Stratford Fair grounds for this event as many more pork producers filed through the buildings learning about the most recent technologies, services, and products on the market.

On top of all this, the 2nd annual OPIC Hog Jog took place. This year’s event recognized Doug Maus, who was the President of Farms.com and a spirited entrepreneur from the Ontario pork industry who passed away in October of 2006. Doug suffered a heart attack during a weekly hockey game with his friends.

The Hog Jog saw over 250 participants, including some Farms.com representatives, who came out in support of the cause and raised over $20,000 which will go towards the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s AED program. This program provides defibrillator equipment, education and training in an effort to save the lives of heart attack victims in arenas, theaters, workplaces - anywhere that groups of people congregate.

In addition to the Hog Jog, the Doug Maus memorial golf tournament was held. The tournament was host to about 124 golfers. Approximately $6756 was raised for the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the event was attended by friends and family of Doug’s as well as industry professionals. Andrew and Ken Raymer won the golf tournament with a score of 66 followed on closely by Rod Black and Scott Douglas with a score of 67.

The Hog Jog was hosted by the Ontario Pork Industry Council (OPIC). Sponsors for the Hog Jog were the Ontario Pork Congress, Ontario Pork, PIC, Phibro Animal Health, Kaslo Bay artificial breeders, and Farms.com.
