Faba Bean Feed Benchmark

May 18, 2018

Corn, feed wheat and barley prices remained stable across the Prairies and the trade is less worried about the lack of planting progress both in Canada and the US, but now has new concerns regarding widespread lack of moisture in western Canada.

Corn DDGS  increased by $10-20 in all provinces amid trucking shortages and plant shutdowns due to maintenance. Protein values (soybean and canola meal) decreased by $10-15/T across the Prairies although prices are likely to increase with the latest USDA report on lower than anticipated world soybean carryover stocks. Railcar shortages are causing a delay in the movement of canola and meal, hence depressing canola meal prices.

Feed peas and faba beans continued to trade in the 255-260 range in Saskatchewan, 265 in Alberta, and 265-270 in Manitoba.
