U.S. says 900,000 tons of corn sold to China

WASHINGTON, (MarketWatch) -- Private exporters reported to the U.S. Department of Agriculture export sales of 900,000 metric tons of corn for delivery to China.

Of the total, 180,000 tons are for delivery during the 2011-12 marketing year and 720,000 is for delivery during the 2012-2013 marketing year, the USDA said Wednesday.

USDA said all of the 2011-12 sales and 480,000 tons of the 2012-13 sales were previously reported as going to unknown destinations.

The 2011-2012 marketing year for corn began Sept. 1, 2011, and the 2012-13 marketing year will begin Sept. 1, 2012.

U.S. exporters are required to report to the USDA any export sales activity of 100,000 metric tons or more of one commodity made in one day or quantities totaling 200,000 tons or more in any reporting period to one destination, by 3:00 p.m. ET the next business day, according to the USDA's Foreign Agricultural Service. Any export sales under these quantities must be reported on a weekly basis
