Six members of Saskatchewan’s ag community will take their spots in the Saskatchewan Agricultural Hall of Fame later this fall.

Among the inductees is Leslie Hill, who in his role as project manager of the Prairie Agricultural Machinery Institute’s (PAMI) combine testing and evaluation program, provided farmers with harvesting and technical knowledge.

PAMI’s testing method measures grain loss versus combine feed rate.

Hill helped to optimize combine performance, reduce combine losses and to save farmers money.

“Congratulations to Les Hill on your induction into the Saskatchewan Agricultural Hall of Fame,” PAMI said on Twitter. “What a great accomplishment!”

The other five inductees are:

  • Jim Bessel, who helped establish canola as a profitable crop for farmers in Saskatchewan and Western Canada.
  • Margaret Crowle (d.2021), who worked as an extension specialist and a home economics entrepreneur. She also supported families through her efforts with the Consumers’ Association of Canada.
  • Jack Dawes, an ag broadcast journalist who served as general manager of the Prairie Oat Growers Association from 2003 to 2011 and helped establish the Saskatchewan Oat Development Commission.
  • Dr. Jeff Schoneau, a professor of soil fertility and professional agrologist with the Department of Soil Science at the University of Saskatchewan.
  • Mark Silzer, a leader in the bison industry who served as chair and president of the Canadian Bison Association from 2004 to 2016.

The induction ceremony will take place Nov. 12 in Saskatoon.

Farms.com has contacted inductees for comment on their upcoming inductions.

Farms.com also wishes to congratulate the class of 2022 and their families!
